THE GRADUATE CHOIR NZ

ANNIVERSARY CHORAL SCHOLARSHIP

Who can apply:

  • Applications are invited from any singer aged 30 or under who can fulfil the terms of the tenure of the scholarship.

  • Applicants may be new singers or members of the current choir.

What you need to do:

  • You need to apply online using the form on our ‘Join Us’ page.

  • Applications close on 31 January 2025.

  • You will then be contacted and asked to present for audition* with the Conductor.

What happens if you are chosen for the scholarship:

  • You will agree to sing with The Graduate Choir NZ for at least one year** from the time of the granting of the award.

  • During that time, you will undertake to attend regular voice lessons with a respected voice teacher selected by the choir management: for 2025 the voice teacher will be James Harrison

  • The award will be for voice lessons to the value of $2000 - $3000.

  • You will need to demonstrate above average commitment to the choir and its requirements.

  • You will agree to sing solos with the choir where this is a reasonable requirement.

  • If, for any reason, you fail to meet these terms and conditions, the scholarship may be suspended or terminated.

The award may favour a candidate where voice lessons would give a distinct value-added component to his/her ability to contribute meaningfully in the choir - although this is not necessarily a strict factor in the selection process.

*The audition will be primarily to assess the voice quality and potential of a singer – particularly as that relates to suitability to sing as a member of The Graduate Choir NZ. Other music areas will also be tested – e.g., aural acuity, sight-reading. Applicants will also be given opportunity to ask questions.

** “one year” may be negotiable, e.g., the recipient may be required to sing in a forthcoming concert where this falls outside a calendar year.
